Cartier won't let me borrow their necklace (Wedding 2003)
I emailed Cartier to ask if they would possibly loan me their Meli-Melo necklace for my upcoming wedding.
Here's a lil closeup. It's so beautiful to me. I daydream of the moonstone, pink tourmalines, aquamarine, mandarin garnets, diamonds, chalcedony, and cordierites.
However, it was not meant to be :( I'll save you the pathetic-ness that was my email, but here's their response:
Dear Ms. Bregar,
Thank you for your interest in Cartier.
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. We are happy to hear that the
Cartier Meli Melo has inspired such enthusiasm. It is truly a unique
creation.
Unfortunatley Cartier does not make a practice of loaning out jewelry for
events whether they be celebrity or non celebrity. Cartier makes a wide
range of styles in different price ranges. Perhaps you can visit one of our
Boutiques before your event so that we may assist you in locating a piece
of jewelry which fits your style and price range.
Sincerely
Cartier
So I guess I didn't know that they didn't loan their jewelry even to celebrities to wear to events! That surprised me. Alas, the cost of the necklace approaches about $35,000 ... so in my dreams it will have to stay. At least I tried, eh?

Central Station it is! (Wedding 2003)
We finally picked a place for the reception. Not that we've actually been inside of it, but we did look through the windows once when it was closed. What we saw of it was fairly cute and they seem reasonable.
Not really getting anywhere with the other plans, though. There is so much to do that I'm blocking it all out. DJ or no DJ? Band? Bar? Actually, when I called about setting up the reception, she asked if I wanted the big room or both rooms, and that that decision would be based on if we were going to have a bar, buffet, sit down dinner, head table, cake table, gift table. Oh my god.
I just want to go somewhere cute and laid back and have everyone have fun. And simultaneously be kinda different.
Like carrying an origami bouquet. So, blogland, tell me your suggestions. What have you always wanted to happen at a wedding? What has happened at one that you didn't like much? Have you ever heard or seen anything unique at a wedding/reception? I'm certainly not above ripping off someone else's unique idea :-)

Reception... Where are you? (Wedding 2003)
Well I thought that we were definitely going with Jumer's for the reception, but now they are imposing rules upon us! We can only pick *one* entree ... which is simply silly for a mixed marriage (you know ... a vegetarian to a non-vegetarian!). So we'll have to work that out I spose. Although we're already past the deadline to return the lil form.
Yikes.
Anyone know of good places to have a reception around Bloomington? :-)
There are a few places I've found on the web... some place called "Turn of the Century," "Paragon Ballroom," and "Central Station." Does anyone know anything about these places?

Hi everyone! Welcome to the Wedding Update page! So far, we've managed to do an absolutely impressive amount of work. Namely, setting a date. The official date is Friday October 31, 2003. Probably at 2pm. It will be at a little church in Funk's Grove, off 55, past Bloomington. It's a very peaceful, pretty area. If you want to check it out further, go on to their web site. We've also chosen Jumer's in Bloomington for the reception.
Ah yes, I almost forgot ... as most of you may know, we are trying to gather together pieces of fabric. Mom (Ginny :-) is going to make a quilt from the fabric that ya'll give up. It can be anything from an old shirt to a tablecloth. But whatever you choose to send ... make sure YOU like it. It doesn't have to have any sort of special meaning, only that you think it's nifty. Maybe I'll post a list of names here of the people that have sent in fabric thus far, so that we may secretly point and laugh at those who have not. C'mon now ... do you really want to be the only person not represented? I didn't think so. If you are sitting there thinking of procrastinating, cut it out. Go send some. Thanks :-) I'm really really really looking forward to the finished product and hopefully we can show it off at the reception. Please give/send your little piece of the quilt to:
Gina Bregar
59 Wind Song
Milpitas, CA 95035
or
Ginny Turner
RR1 Box 1453
Granville, IL 61326
We're really looking forward to seeing everyone next October!
