Strange Coincidences:

Ones (Strange Coincidences)

I stopped by Little Caesar's today, on my way home from the store. Not the greatest pizza in the world, but $5 for a large cheese pizza that is always very fresh and very fast is a good price. Plus, it is close by, unlike Monical's Pizza, which is about a 1,000 miles away, literally.

After I got out of my car, I looked in my wallet to make sure I had some 1-dollar bills. I knew I had enough cash with me, but for some reason, I purposely checked to make sure I had at least one dollar bill. There were two ones in my wallet, and I knew the pizza would be about $5.70 or so, so I knew I'd be fine.

After I walked into the pizza store, I saw a little cardboard sign on the front of the cash register that said "We are out of 1's! Please pay your bill with 1's. We also accept checks and credit cards". Doesn't it seem strange that I checked my wallet for ones before I got into the store and saw the sign?

I handed the woman a twenty, and a one, and she gave me back a ten, a five, some change, and a large cheese pizza. On the way home, I ate two slices, and decided to make my bi-yearly blog posting.

Not many other strange coincidences have happened lately. At least not anything worth blogging about. I did have a weird dream about some woman named "Mambo Jambo". Through the grapevine, I heard she was after me, and I should look out for her. After I woke up, I googled her name, and discovered she was a jazz song. Funnier still, now Geena can't get this song out of her head.

Two Dreams (Strange Coincidences)

Yesterday morning, I dreamt of throwing up. I vomited about 6 times in a row, without stop. In the dream, I was surprised at the sensation of throwing up, because I hadn't experienced that feeling in many years.

This morning, I dreamt that I worked at Quiznos, and my job was to make deliveries to the back of the store. In the dream, I was surprised to find myself in the back room of a Quiznos, and remember specifically wondering what the heck I was doing back there.

Today, long after I forgot the dreams, Geena asked me to pick up some soup from Quiznos on the way home. It was about 5:45pm, and they closed at 6:00pm. Not many people were there, except for an old woman that was obviously very intoxicated. When I walked by her, she mumbled something, but I completely ignored her. That did not make her happy.

By the time I started ordering some sandwiches, the lady was yelling obscenities at me, and kicking chairs down to the ground. I glanced at her with a blank expression on my face, staying calm, hoping she would finish her tirade, all the while planning my escape route through the back of the store. The guy behind the counter gave me a knowing look, and said he would be back in a minute. He didn't seem to be phased much, and calmly walked over towards her and asked her to leave the store. She kicked down a few more chairs on her way out, but she was gone.

I ordered some sandwiches (they were out of soup!), and left the Quiznos, eyeing to the left and right to see if the crazy woman was nearby. I didn't see her, but I did almost walk into a big splash of vomit on the sidewalk right in front of Quiznos. I walked further towards my car, and saw 4 more puddles of vomit, spaced out over a city block. The crazy lady was up at the corner where I needed to cross the road. She glanced towards me, and vomited onto the road. I crossed the street and jumped in my car and drove home.

It wasn't until I got home that I remembered the dream about Quiznos. That freaked me out a little when I remembered it. When I told Geena about the Quiznos dream, she reminded me about my dream where I kept throwing up. Strange eh?

My Dream is on Fire (Strange Coincidences)

When I dream about fire, sleep with a fire extinguisher under your pillow. It may be uncomfortable, but you can't be too careful. Friday night/Saturday morning, I was back at my parents house in my dream. I don't remember any of the dream, until I was standing in my parent's driveway.

That's when I saw a big fire off in the distance. As I've mentioned before, I nearly always subconsciously direct my dreams. If I start worrying I'm going to drive off a cliff, I'll drive off a cliff. This time, I don't remember thinking of fire, it just showed up in the distance. The fire seemed out of place, but I integrated it into my dream fairly quickly. I thought "that fire is going to get huge", and then a huge fireball flew into the sky.

The last time I remember dreaming about fire/smoke, I saw a big plume of smoke outside my window soon after. Well, it happened again. I was walking up the stairs this afternoon, and saw another plume of smoke right over the mountains. Geena and I weren't completely sure it was from a fire until we saw the news report about the Mt. Hamilton fire on the TV news.

Update: Here's a better news link about the same fire.

September 8th, 2001 (Strange Coincidences)

Two years ago today, Geena and I were driving down Van Ness, on our way home from a book fair. A large building loomed in front of us blocking the horizon. I looked up at the San Francisco landmark and said "can you imagine what the skyline would look like if that building just disappeared?". Three days later, and after the smoke cleared, the once-obstructed horizon was again visible in a city three thousand miles away.

Lightning! (Strange Coincidences)

There was an incredible lightning storm! Lightning is very rare here in the bay area, but last night was the exception. I saw a bolt every 20 seconds or so for at least 45 minutes before I got tired of standing in front of the window. The lightning storm was probably about 5 miles east of our house, and traveled very slowly from south to north. Most of the lightning hit the ground somewhere behind the hills.

On the news, they were talking about a bunch of fires started by the lightning, so I went up to my window and saw this big plume right where the lightning was last night.

Smoky Dream Coincidence?

Fish: So long, and thanks for all the you. (Strange Coincidences)

When I was about 12 to 14 years old, one of my fish grew some type of weird tumor near or on its eye. It couldn't swim too well anymore, and after a few days, it really couldn't do anything but slowly swim around on it's side. It was difficult for me to watch this fish slowly die, but there really wasn't anything I could do to help it.

One afternoon after school, I checked on the fish, and it wasn't moving much at all. I felt that the end was near, but I really didn't know for sure if the fish would just linger for days in that pitiful state. That's when I decided to try to communicate with the fish.

I can go count the money right now... (Strange Coincidences)

Ellie did something real cute while I was talking to Kevin on the phone. I wasn't there to see it, but Kevin says she reached out and petted Oliver twice. Go ahead and get your ooooh's and ahhhh's out right now (AHH!!! HOW CUTE!!! :)), cuz now you're entering the 'Dave is a freak' part of the story.

After he said Ellie was petting Oliver, I told him he should record that in the baby book so they'd never forget this day. About 15 minutes later, I went to the Baby website, and I noticed Kevin made an entry a few hours before. In the entry, Kevin refers to the Baby website as the "baby book". I don't recall either one of us ever refering to the website as a baby book before (at least not recently), so I was a little surprised. Why did we both independently call the website "the baby book" at the same time? Coincidence? Probably. The next story is freaky, though.
