Name Change (Odd Musings)
So, as many of you know, Dave and I are getting married in October. I definitely plan on "taking" his name. I'm wondering, though, if I should also change the spelling of my first name while I'm at it. It's "officially" spelled Gina, but in high school a friend of mine started spelling it "Geena." I really liked it that way, and started spelling it that way sort of informally, but have had to wait until now to possibly change it to that spelling officially.
So what do you think? Keep it Gina but continue to spell it Geena? Or change it altogether?
In unrelated news, I had my sensitive tooth fixed today. Mr. dentist said that numbing usually isn't required, but seeing as how I jumped when he merely stared at it last week (ha ha), maybe I'd like some. Duh. So now 1/4 of my face isn't really of my control. After he numbed it, he brought out the Air Gun From Hell and I flinched at the mere sight of it! Since I couldn't feel half of my tongue, I thought it safe for him to try it. (Ironically, we were using the air nozzle to make sure I was numb enough) When he first used it, I flinched out of sheer anticipation of pain without actually feeling much. I then had to admit that I hadn't felt any pain at all :-)
So hopefully it's all better, at least for a few more years. I seriously really and truly hate tooth pain. There's just nothing like it.

part of me says go for it, the other part (i think it is the mom part) says "will you still like it when your 60?"

Hmm--- this isn't some sort of secret Geena Davis fixation is it? :-) But seiously, As far as names go, you should go with what "fits" you--and only YOU know that answer. Ultimately, you are the one that lives with it .. and we are really only talking about a spelling change here --- it's not going to change who YOU are!

I think what ever fits best is how people spell it when you say your name. I naturally spell Gina Gina but what is the natural spelling now when you say your name because I think the hardest thing is always correcting the spelling of your name everytime you say it to someone. Is Geena the popular spelling right now? I know someone who named her girl Katy or Katie but spells it Cady. Everyone seems to try to add an A before my name.

I think you should change it to "Dave" in an effort to confuse people. You can continue pronouncing it "Gina" :)

Hi! Just came back from the dentist myself today (fixing a cracked tooth) and I must say, that when the air nozzle came towards me, I thought of you and flinched --- I had been novacained, but I was leery given your graphic description ... he paused, somewhat surprised and asked if it hurt (of course it couldn't have, since it hadn't hit my mouth yet! I just grinned shamefacedly and said, "no, I was just thinking about something else" ---none-the-less, I was braced for pain...and fortunately felt none! :-) Thanks for training him so well for the rest of us! :-)

As you probably know, I am a big fan of the "Geena" spelling variation. I am also a big fan of tweaking/changing your name if the "given" one leaves you wanting. ;)

hmmmm... so it makes me wonder why Virginia never legally changed her name to Ginny (since she has such an extreme dislike for the former)? I honestly "see" your name as Geena, maybe because it IS you. Consider that, just like someone who never uses their formal name among friends, you know when mail is coming from someone you know! Depends too if you like to have the option of multiple personalities or anonymity. Others may ponder who the other woman is "so, Dave (Dad), who's this Gina person in your old love letters??"...
