Cartier won't let me borrow their necklace (Wedding 2003)

I emailed Cartier to ask if they would possibly loan me their Meli-Melo necklace for my upcoming wedding.

Here's a lil closeup. It's so beautiful to me. I daydream of the moonstone, pink tourmalines, aquamarine, mandarin garnets, diamonds, chalcedony, and cordierites.

However, it was not meant to be :( I'll save you the pathetic-ness that was my email, but here's their response:

Dear Ms. Bregar,

Thank you for your interest in Cartier.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. We are happy to hear that the Cartier Meli Melo has inspired such enthusiasm. It is truly a unique creation.

Unfortunatley Cartier does not make a practice of loaning out jewelry for events whether they be celebrity or non celebrity. Cartier makes a wide range of styles in different price ranges. Perhaps you can visit one of our Boutiques before your event so that we may assist you in locating a piece of jewelry which fits your style and price range.

Sincerely
Cartier

So I guess I didn't know that they didn't loan their jewelry even to celebrities to wear to events! That surprised me. Alas, the cost of the necklace approaches about $35,000 ... so in my dreams it will have to stay. At least I tried, eh?

I'm surprised they even mailed you back.
And it is nice to know that not even celebrities can get a loaner :).

Geena, it's gorgeous! And for some reason, it seems very you. Colorful and . . . organic is the closest word I can come up with, but it's not right. Natural? It kind of reminds me of a snowflake, only more colorful and airy. . . umm . . . a hallucinogenic snowflake?

Okay, this is not headed anywhere good. But I love it and think it's perfect for you and it is a shame Cartier won't loan it to you. Did you ask if they would give it to you? Or have you looked for people who can make something similar?

I am so impressed that you tried! Guess you never know unless you ask...
